The Certificate III in Fitness prepares the aspiring fitness instructor for working in gyms and fitness centres, conducting fitness assessments, designing programs, instructing clients and maintaining a safe gym environment. It is a standard requirement for any person wishing to become a fitness instructor in Australia and a prerequisite course to a Certificate IV in Personal Training. It is delivered in three parts: Part 1 – Health, Fitness & Wellbeing This 40-hour program is designed to enhance your understanding of health, fitness and wellbeing. Upon completion you will have gained a knowledge of the structure and function of the human body by studying anatomy, exercise physiology, movement mechanics and nutrition. Part 2 – Weight Training, Exercise Programming & Appraisals This 76-hour component of the Certificate III program prepares students to be competent in the skills of weight training, exercise programming and design, health and fitness appraisal and effective communication. Part 1 of the Certificate III in Fitness or the Core Module of the VicFit Fitness Leaders course is a pre-requisite. In addition to the prescribed course dates, 5 practical sessions will be scheduled on Saturdays in Week 1 of the course. Part 3 – First Aid This two day component of the Certificate III program requires students to attain a Level 2 First Aid Certificate. Students who already have a current level 2 First Aid Certificate will gain recognition of prior learning, and therefore will be exempt from this requirement upon presenting their valid certificate.
